Can you loose weight when you switch birth control?!

Question:
I am currently using Depo, and I have gained a good amount of weight, and even with exercise and eating right can't seem to loose it (being a college student doesn't help!). I want to switch to the pill.. so you think that switching would help loose some weight (along with exercise and diet?).
Answers:
It could help you loose the weigh, or it could make you gain more weight. Birth control of all kinds can make you gain weight. Trying it out will be the only way to know for sure how your body will react to it. If the pill doesn't work for you there are other things that you can try and even different variations of the pill.

Other Answers:
Maybe. Everyone is different. I know people who have and people who haven't.

Try the Nuva Ring, it's almost as maintenance free as the shot, and a more even distribution of hormones.

i believe the depo shot is a weight gain shot more than a birth control shot. i also gained lots of weight while on the depo shot and i tried switching birth control methods and it seemed to work. i have lost almost 50 lbs without diet or exercise. you should consider an iud(intra-uterine-device) it is shaped like a t and blocks anything from coming in and anything from going out (except period) it is put in like a pap smear and doesnt hurt. no side effects that i know of and it works really good. also the pill has the same hormones as a depo shot so i dont know if switching would help with the weight gain but it is worth a try. it worked for me. the only bad part is with depo you dont have a cycle monthly but any other birth control you will have one, and the iud is 99% effective. good luck in your search also most insurance will pay for the procedure.

I TOOK THE PILL AND DIDNT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WEIGHT, MY LITTLE SISTERS WERE ON THE SHOT AND ONE GAINED ONE DID NOT
THERE ARE OTHER KINDS OF BIRTH CONTOL OTHER THAN THE SHOT OR THE PILL, NO WEIGHT GAIN EVEN TALK TO YOUR GYNO

i dont think so.. my mom stated takin it and she was still the same weight

Switch to the pill, the shot made my sister gain alot of weight. She had 2 children since then and got her tubes tied. But by all means if it will make you feel better switch.

yeah but if you need write to sassy_brat_aa757@yahoo.com

I started taking yasmin (have to be a certain age I think) and I have lost 45-50 pounds. I gained that on the shot.

everyone i have talked to using the shot has gained weight and had a hard time losing baby weight, if you use it after having a baby. i would talk to your doctor if you are concerned with losing weight and are using birthcontrol

STOP PILLS AND STOP SEX..LOL

I got off the depo in order to have another child and lost 30 lbs in 4 months. Felt good. But, it took me a year to get pregnant again.

Possible but not likely the pill interacts with hormones so you may shed a few pounds or gain water weight.

IT will take a while till your body begins to accept and metabolize the hormones and then you will be able to loose weight more readily.

i don't think so i heard of gaining weight

It's unlikely. when you switch, talk to your doctor about your concerns. It is entirely possible to lose weight regardless of the birth control method you are using. I know it's hard being a college student too (I'm there as well).
