What makes you think they aren't?

Staph is present in ALL hospitals, on ALL persons, at ALL times. The fact is that people who work in hospitals are more frequently exposed to antibiotic resistant strains, and then carry them around on their body and in their nose. Microbiology has taught us that when microbes, which exist in colonies of billions and trillions and only require one to infect a person are abundant, the inferm will get sick first. That is why healthy people usually don't get infected with the staph that sits on their skin but people in the hospital (who are sick) do get infected, sometimes with disastrous results. It is extremely rare for infections to go from patient to patient in the hospital, but all of us healthcare workers have the potential to expose our patients. For your own protection (or for your loved one) ask any person in a medical setting to wash their hands or wear gloves before they touch you.
