Question:
if someone has a great healthy diet and excercises, is it still possible to get clogged arteries, provided cholestrol is normal.. do skipped heartbeats indicate clogged arteries? i have been getting them lately and i am healthy..if it's not one thing it's another!! i just got over having strep and now this..! i am doing all the right things, don't have junk food or trans fat or friend foods, drink lots of water..i do drink red wine alot on the weekends, could that be a cause? i also have dark chocolate which has some caffeine..but i don't drink coffee and I only have decaf green tea..i also take co-enzyme q-10. there are NO other symptoms with my skipped beats.thanks for your answers..
Answers:
skipped heartbeats are not linked to clogged arteries ,they are usually harmless and called ectopic heartbeats this could be due to the red wine or it could be due to you being run down after your strep, tiredness also causes them as does caffiene,If they are bad or dont clear up soon just get checked out .

Clogged arteries can be hereditry so if your parents had heart disease they could pass it on even if you eat healthily, go to your doctor to get checked out

go to the Dr

If the skipped beats are like flutters, it could just be stress. And if you just got over being sick, that could have something to do with it. It sounds like you take good care of yourself, but if you're really worried, see a doctor. or call the one that was treating your strep. I don't think the skipped beats have anything to do with clogged arteries. Call a doctor before you get yourself worked up and more than you already are!

Best to have a doctor check it out.

Skipped heart beats(extra systoles) do not necessarily indicate high cholestrol. There're usuallly caused by central nervous stimulants,i.e.coffee. You don't consumme coffee, so I would say, a side effect of the strep. Keep a close watch, and if it continues, see a physician.

High levels of blood fats can often be hereditary. If you recently had a strep infection, there is a small possibility that it may have done some damage to the valves of your heart. Many people have harmless "skipped beats" (known as PVC's), though. Red wine (in moderation) is generally considered healthy, as it is known to help reduce blood lipids. If the skipped beats are frequent, I think you should go to your doc for an evaluation. You may need to have an EKG and/or an echocardiogram (both painless) in order to determine the cause. I had frequent PVC's, had an echocardiogram and found that I have a floppy heart valve, which is not generally serious, but I did begin therapy on a beta-blocker which completely stopped the extra beats.
Go to a doctor to ease your mind, and good luck.
