Why are doctors so arrogant?!
Question:
I have worked in several hospitals and have noticed that most doctors are arrogant, or just plain mean. Why do they act this way? Is it because they have been in school for so long and are bitter on all the life they missed out on? It seems that they are allowed to get away with bad bedside manor but nurses and techs would be fired promptly for such behavior.

Drs. are very busy and with HMO's dictating their lives they are in a hurry. Plus drs. are not supposed to get attached to their patients. Which is a bummer cuz then we don't get treated as individuals.

They can afford to be arrogant. It makes me sick, too. But I know some doctors that are awesome and were great with me while I was in the hospital for eight months. If they get to know you and you're not arrogant, they won't be.

doctors have different priorities than nurses and techs. with a limited number of hours in a day and a usually high load of people to care for, the number one priority is not small talk, it's making an accurate diagnosis and giving the correct treatment. this difference in objective is commonly interpreted as being rude and cold, but it's reality.
does this mean they have the right to be outright jerks? no way. and I know plenty of docs who aren't. it's a shame that a few bad apples spoil the barrel.
They spend a lot of time in their life to become one this leaves them ignorant of other people feelings
You partly answered it.some think they missed out for going to school all those years, and also due to those many years of schooling, a number of them are out of touch with the real world.
I notice a similar attitude in college professors.
