when do you stop sterilising the bottles for a baby?!

Question:
mine is 8 months old and he started solid foods a month ago
Answers:
My doctor/hospital told me it is not necessary at all anymore, provided I used hot water and soap to wash the bottles in the first place. Also they said not to heat milk, or use bottled, distilled water. Everything right out of the tap as long as it was within a city. ? Things sure do change over time.

I've had 4 children, I always stopped using my steriliser at about 6/7 months. As long as you wash and rinse them thoroughly. I've never had any problems.

As long as you wash the bottles in warm soapy water AND dry them with a clean cloth, not used for hand drying or dishes, then you should be fine. After all you don't sterlise his bowls and plates do you?

I'm somewhat of a germaphobic, I suppose, but I STILL use the sanitize option on the dishwasher.

But previous poster is right and there's some thought that a normal level of bacteria exposure is important for building a healthy immune system. Of course, no one is advocating letting the kid pull a 3-day old bottle of juice out from under the couch, but many doctors feel that over-sanitizing everything is over-kill.
