How do I fix round shoulders?!

Question:
my shoulders are getting rounder and rounder day by day due to sloping at my desk for long hours. Any solutions to this?
Answers:
Hi troubled. First, you definitely want to change your desk situation to help you avoid the need to 'slope' for long hours. Also, would be helpful to take regular breaks - even for just a minute or two.

Second, long-term changes may be occuring in your body that are contributing to progressive rounding of your shoulders. These chnages would include shortening and tightening of anterior (front of the body) chest and shoulder muscles. Specifically, the pectoralis major and minor muscles. These can easily be stretched by doing the 'doorway' stretch. Stand in an open doorway and place each hand on the the wall at shoulder level. Lean forward gently to stretch the chest muscles. Hold for 15-45 seconds. Then reach up as high as you can with your arms and repeat the stretching. You can also try additional stretches with intermediate hand positions.

Third, over-stretched and weakened upper back and posterior shoulder muscles may also be involved. Work these muscles by doing repetitions of pulling your arms/shoulders backwards.

These are simple, but powerful, techniques. If you are not able to improve your condition within a few weeks, then it may be appropriate to seek professional guidance with a chiropractor or physical therapist.
Good luck!
