Which exercise is better to loose weight, walk or run?!

Question:
I want to loose some weight, hopefully around 24 pounds, right now I weight 140 pounds and I really want to do something about it.
Answers:
Running is better because it burns off more calories in the same amount of time than walking. So running is more effective, but it may put more strain on the joints of the body, esp the ankles, so you should have the appropriate footwear. Also, make sure you don't eat more to compensate for the calories you lose during the exercise.
Not eating after 6pm is another good way to lose weight. Don't go to bed on a full stomach!!

Other Answers:
walk is the best.Walking is a form of aerobic exercise and is one of the easiest ways to increase your physical activity and improve your health. Physical activity increases your heart rate, strengthens your heart, and increases blood circulation through your body, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to your organs. Exercise also increases your lungs' ability to take in oxygen, lowers blood pressure, helps to reduce body fat, and improves blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

running is the quickest way

runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

running is more effective

Swimming actually burns off more calories than any other thing. Try that and good luck!:)

Run

Running helps you lose weight and is all around good for your body.

Whichever one you will do consistently.

I would imagine running (or a soft jog) because it seems to me like running would require more energy therefor burn more calories.

Walking worked for me! I lost 60 pounds

It's not about how fast you go, it's about how much distance you cover. You will burn the same amount of calories in a mile whether you walk it or run it. It may be easier initially for you to start out walking, but it will take longer. Go at whatever pace feels comfortable for you.

start off walking.you'll get tired easily by running.

run and eat healthy

walking
lower impact on the whole body

Weight loss is 90% diet, 10% exercise.
Having said that, running burns more calories than walking.

My own experience.

both would be beneficial and you eating a sensible diet.

Fast paced walking is better than running.

Both are actually good. You burn about the same amount of calories, but walking takes longer. Start walking and mix in some running.

walking is the best exercise or you can slow jog, that works too. oohh try shapeworks diet, my mom was on that and it worked alittle for her but then later she wasnt sticking to it like she should have.

Start with walking. Go to parts of your town you haven't been in awhile, and aim for a one-hour walk. Remember, it's not the distance, it's the time.

After your legs are strengthened, you can run partway and work your way up to full-out running.

Also, supplement this with weight training. Your metabolism will be boosted SO much by muscle mass. One pound of muscle uses 1500 calories a month and one pound of fat uses 5.

Be sure to add lots of fiber to your diet. You'll get fuller and stay that way, and it's good for your colon!

Don't obsess over any of this though. Be happy with you, because you're God's amazing Creation!

Hope I helped.

Mile for mile each will burn about the same calories. It may be easier to stick with walking compared to running. Often people get in the habit of running once or twice a week and that's all. You can be less motivated and still get out walking.

Walking is easier on the joints as well. Running is super hard on your knees and ankles. Trust me from experience. Running feels really good, but after a few years of running your body sure notices the wear and tear.

I still run, but instead I mix in hiking and walking. If you get a variety (biking, running, hiking) you'll probably be able to stick with it. Harder to get bored when you do mulitple activities.
Good luck on your endeavor! Remember, do it more for the health of it than for losing weight.

I have a book called fit or fat. ISBN # 0-395-27162-2
My girlfriend was very overwieght and bought this book and started the speed walking. She had me go with her after a while and as I only wiegh 125, I did not need to lose an inch let alone a pound. I lost 7-10 pounds after just a week. She lost weight rapidly, at first then after the first month was sort of a stand still for a while, however, after a year, she was so slim and trim, looked like a different person.
The trick to speed walking is doing it every day for the first month, seven days a week, 2 miles a day in 20 minutes. You start out slower the first few days and as your body adjusts you pick up speed, so after the first week you are doing the 2 miles in 20 minutes like you were made to walk. The first week is the hardest, as every little muscle in your body will hurt ever so much, little muscles you never knew you had. But tough it out and get out there the next day...it does really work..it seems to curve your appetite too. It does increase your bodies metabolism rate which burns the food you eat quicker ...great exercise and the best for losing weight..good luck

I was about the same about 1.5 years ago. I ran about 20-25 minutes 4-5 days a week and on bad weather days I did a pretty good exercise video. I liked the ones that had obnoxiously beautiful and dumb models in them. I got mad at them and felt that I could kick their tiny butts when I was done. I borrowed a bunch of videos from friend until I found the ones that didn't kill me but kept it interesting enough to keep doing it. I also got pretty expensive running shoes. That made a big difference. My feet still thank me. I lost at least 20 pounds. Everyone notices too. I feel great. I just jogged and kept my heart rate above normal for at least 20 minutes a day and things just seemed to work. I was also careful what I put on my plate. Get used to not finishing your food on your plate, especially at a restaurant. Doggie bags are good.

In this day and age walking is a better weight loss because you might keep it up.

Walking is easy but burns Less calories. If want to an ultimate fat burning work-out. Try jogging and you will quickly get addicted and enjoy the way your body feels. you will see results quickly too.
