It's more of an art. Not everyone can take one, consistently, well. You can't step by step it.

You have to be trained to do that. You can't anyhow do it. I think it's illegal too as X-rays are harmful.
Anyway, just put a PA film next to the tooth you want to be x-rayed then shoot with the x-ray machine with you standing behind a lead wall.
