Okay, first of all, you have already asked for help which is a positive step in dealing with depression.

It is important to understand why you are depressed and whether this 'root' cause can be changed in any way.

Your diet is important, especially as poor appetite can be a symptom of depression, or caused by depression. Eat healthy foods, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, oily fish is an excellent sauce of fatty acids which are an integral part of brain function. Drink plenty of water, and get regular exercise.

You should also make sure that you have someone to talk to if things get rough.

Sometimes sleep can be affected by depression, which can cause further problems as your adrenelin levels rise, possibly causing anxiety. Therefore, you should find effective ways of relaxation, such as meditation, candle lit baths, ambient tunes etc. You may wish to try some herbal remedies, St. John's Wort is recognised as an effective remedy for mild depression. But check with your doctor if you are on any other medication. Camomile is good for relaxation, and lavender has a soothing effect, especially when burnt as an essential oil. Valerian root is a good herbal remedy for insomnia.

You could also try counselling to try and get to the root of your problems. Activities which you enjoy can also provide a distraction from your discomfort, or help focus you if you feel confused or agitated.

Above all do not lose hope. There are plenty of people out there who will understand your situation. Depression is a greatly mimsunderstood condition, and whether it is mild or major it is important to understand it well and know what works for you.

I can't stress enought that it is important that you check out herbal remedies with your doctor and a trained herbalist, especially if you are on any medication at the moment. Just because they are herbal does not mean that they cannot do any harm if used incorrectly. I hope that this is some help to you.

Good luck and take care. D.

St. Johns Wort is a natural herbal remedy that is probably worth trying, as other people have suggested. However, have you considered going to see a qualified hypnotherapist about this? I know from experience that hypnotherapy can be of enormous help in treating depression, and this type of therapy is totally natural and safe and offers the added benefit of complete relaxation and freedom from worry as well. If you want any futher information about hypnotherapy, please feel free to contact me.
