i am researching my senior project and want to know what the most common reason!

i am learniong how to tattoo for my senior project and i am just wantiong to know what people think the reasons people get tattooed for.
Answers:
I wanted a tattoo since I was 18. I thought they looked cool, sexy whatever when done tastefully. The day before my 33rd b'day, I went and got my kid's initals tattooed onto my ankle. They are done as Asian letters so until I tell you what it is, you probably don't know.

i got my tattoo becuase my grandmother and i were really close she pasted so i got a tattoo that is the chinesse simble of love and her name over it.that is y i got mine!
I hear that with each tattoo, the need or shall I say want for more increases. Usually people who get one tattoo, can't stop there.
tattoos go way back to indians (all the tribal tattoos)

It's a form of self-expression, rebelling against parents, deep personal reason (in memory of a friend or family member, to draw attention to themselves. There are probably a million more reasons.

I have had a very tough life, and my tattoos are reminders of the bad things that have happened to me and what I have had to do to rise above. I guess posterity would be the right word.

Everyone gets tatts for their own reasons, mine are for me, personal and mean something to me. Not so sure there is one "common" reason to get a tatt. Unless you want to go with the stereotypes. Like military peeer pressure or back in the '60s when everyone in jail was getting them.
Originally, people got tattoos for individuality but now it is too common, people just think they are cool and a tatt would make them unique.
Honestly, I think it's stupid. Have you ever seen these old people with tattoos.Not so pleasant to look at.Icky!

I think it varies, for some it is a way of expression, many do it to memorialize others, some it is cultural, some ppl do it out of drunken stupidity. There is no one singal reason. Would you yourself get a tattoo, if so what would be your reason? Think about it.
Self expression. Most people get a symbol or design that means something to them, whether it's something they designed themselves or even those ubiquitous barbed wire tattoos. Those could mean that the person sees themselves as a bad azz or tough person or even a prison of this world.. anything. But it means something to them. And to get something permanent on your skin is the ultimate form of expression. It announced to the world that you are committed to that particular thought (well, at least for the time being. Some people realize that a tattoo on their butt crack won't look as cool when they're 60 so they laser them off). But most people see it as a form of personal expression Sure the IDEA of getting a tattoo may be part of the herd mentality. But when you come up with that design, or pick that design out of that book, that is your psyche, your id, your ego talking.

Me. I have one tattoo and it has something to do with my screen name. I've had it for about seven years and I still like it and will have it forever. and may still yet get another.
It is all about Art! You walk into a museum and you see all these beautiful pieces of art on a wall. Art on your body is just as beautiful or even more! It can be fun, crazy, wild or have some sentimental value. I like a lot of tattoos on people, it makes us unique.
well, i personally go my tattoos for me, they are in places which mean they aren't visible all the time, but thats not important, because i didnt get them done for anyone else. Im about to get another one, which is a memorial tattoo in memory of my mum
Nowadays I think is mostly because of fashion. It might look cool!
Most people tend to get tattoos just for the moment or just for the heck of it
I assume the reason I would get mine is because of my Native American background …
But for most people I just assume that it something they can show off and people can gawk at
