how do i treat bruised or broken ribs?!

Question:

Answers:
If its just a hairline fracture (which is what it is most of the times, unless the injury was very severe) then merely talking some analgesics for the pain may be sufficient. Occasionally some sort of support (with a strapping- for immobilisation) may be required, for which you will have to ask your doc. It is always good to get an X-Ray done to assess the damage and to rule out any trauma to the lungs- sometimes rib fractures may produce a condition called tension pneumothorax, which could be serious. Also elderly people with rib fractures tend to breathe shallow due to the pain, which may predispose them to developing a pneumonia. So one should ensure deep breathing in them by giving them adequate analgesics for the pain .

Other Answers:
go to the doctor or hospital

If they don't hur too badly, just take it easy, and let them heal. If they hurt alot, get an x-ray- fractured ribs can puncture the lungs, or other organs.

wrapping is about all you can do. Try not to cough too hard since breathing alone hurts with broken ribs.
sneezing is really fun too

experience, many broken bones including ribs

Rest, wrap your torso up so that part of your body does not move much, be careful, no strenuous anything at all. I would see a doctor for x-rays and to check for complications, but they cannot do anything except give you pain killers (which are bad, try to avoid them) and antibiotics if you start to get infected. Give it a couple of days with rest, if it gets worse, definitely see a doc.

lots of rest and paracetamol. If you go to hospital, they can only confirm if the ribs are broken, but cannot do anything to treat. They aren't even allowed to bandage them anymore for fear of displacing them. Take it really easy

medical receptionist

You really need to have them looked at. see this link though it will give you a good idea of what you are up against. I assume it is fairly reliable as it is from U Michigan.
