School project! Help! Please! Are vitamin tablets really good for you?!

Question:
should you really eat them? Are just eating vitamins enough, or should you eat fruit and vegetables too?
Answers:
Yes they are good for you and your body, but unfortunatly, most people dont realize that they dont need them. As long as you eat regularly, and healthy, you get all the vitamins you need for the day. And in most cases, you body won't obsorb extra (to store/use) of any particular vitamin (in most cases). Therefore, just eat healthy and you should be fine, and shouldn't need them. Like always though, it may be better to actually ask a doctor, more specifically, your doctor.

Other Answers:
will vitamin pills are good for you, you need to ingest other things like protiens and bacteria's, vitamins alone cannot sostain your body

Vitamins are "supliments" which means that they are to be taken in addition to a healthy diet, not in place of a healthy diet. The thing with vitamins is that most of the vitamin gives more than your body needs in certain areas, like when you see 1000% of Vitamin C, that means that its 10X more vitamin C than you need. So all that happens is basically you are going to pee it all out! Also, your body doesnt absorb nutrients from the vitamin pills as well as it does from natural food. so attempting to get your nutrition from foods is best!

You can not survive off of vitamins.. your body needs fats and sugars to work! People always are like, NO FAT NO SUGAR. but your body's nervous system does not function without things like salt, fat, sugar. etc. Those only come from food!

Vitamins are better in the natural state of food because if you take a multi supplement, all the nutrients just get washed out in your urine. Whereas, in food, the vitamins get absorbed through the function of your digestive system.

vitamin tablets are only useful if you are lacking in a particular vitamin if you have a healthy balanced diet and eat plenty of fruit and veg then really you should not need them.

Vitamin supplements are recommended by many, many medical researchers. However, they do not replace a good diet, and a good diet begins with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Go to the website for the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) at: jama.ama-assn.org. At the top of the page, click on 'Archives'. Then select the year 2002. Click on the June 19, 2002 issue. Scroll down to find the article titled: "Vitamins for chronic disease prevention in Adults". Click on 'abstract' to get the summary where they conclude: 'inadequate intake of several vitamins has been linked to chronic diseases, including coronary heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis'.

Best wishes and good luck!
