Is there lead in the paint on children's wooden alphabet blocks made in China?!

If they're new, then chances are that they're safe. However, if you don't know the age or want to be sure, you can get a lead paint swab kit at a hardware store or Lowe's or Home Depot. I've used them many times myself.they're for detecting lead paint on surfaces, typically in an old house. Basically you swab the surface (in this case of the block you are suspicious of) and if the end of the swab turns blue or purple (depending on the brand of the lead swab that you use) it is reacting with lead in the paint on the surface of the block. The kits are not expensive.I think I've gotten mine for under ten bucks. Good luck to you!

yah, it's a conspiracy man.

i dont know

when were they made? if made recently.no

Probably - the best way to find out is to scrape a little bit of it off, put it on a glass slide, call around to laboratories and ask someone to run a sample of the stuff through a gas spectrometer. Lead gives off a definite reading when chemically analysed.

i dont know

probably. most products from china re not safe. consumer reports is always listing recalls of products that are "non toxic" but prove to be unsafe.

better safe than sorry!

I guess it depends. You can't class every factory in China in the same group. That's like asking if all food in America is healthy.

Your best bet is to buy brand name stuff from American companies that make their stuff in China. That way you know it (should) is reliable. Otherwise you will unfortunately have to do a laboratory test on your blocks.
