gynecologist?!
Question:
i am going in a few weeks for my first test at the gyno. i've been for the "talks" already about pills and stuff. but now i'm going to get my first pap smear and tests and stuff. i'm so scared just because it's someone i don't know touching me. can someone tell me exactly everything they do? and have any advice on how to calm myself down? thanks!

Different gyno's do different things. The pap smear is pretty much the same all over, you put your legs in the stirrup things, they insert a spectulum type thing that opens you and then use a swab to take a smear. It's uncomfortable, if you are a virgin it can be a little painful but not horribly bad. They probably will do a breast exam to check for lumps, and possibly an internal exam where they use a gloved finger to feel inside for lumps etc. Not all gyno's do the vaginal exam though. They will ask questions about if your periods are regular, when the last one was, any chance of pregnancy, you know routine questions like that. The smear and exams only take about 5 minutes so know it won't last long and you'll be out and it will all be done.
To calm down, just know every woman goes through it and the tests and exam are necessary to stay healthy. Take deep breaths. The doctor will probably be talking to you to distract you too. Try to picture yourself doing something you like to do.

all they do is put an instument in "there". it doesnt hurt. you just have to relax. they may touch on your boobs too, but thats about it. it usually only takes about 3 minutes and your done! nothing to worry about.
It can be very embarrassing, but try to relax. They will put your legs in stirrups and put this silver instrument in your v-----a, and take a sample of tissue to have it tested for cancer and etc. They may give you a pelvic exam with this to make sure everything is ok. Sometimes they do a rectal exam as well. just relax and it will be over before you know it. My doctor also gives me a breast exam to make sure there is nothing going on like little tumors or knots on your breast.. Grin and bear it. It will probably be more embarrassing than it hurts..
