A doctor told me that I need 3000mg of Vitamin C everyday. Is that true?!

Question:
There are 2 questions here:
1. Is the statement above true?
2. If I were to consume only oranges to get vitamin C, how to make sure I get enough of it, and what's the calculation?
Answers:
The recommended daily allowance for vitamin C varies. The current recommendation for adults is 120 mg daily, although a dose of 60 mg daily is all that is required to prevent scurvy. Some experts think the level should be as high as 200 mg daily to match the level present in 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, a diet shown to decrease cancer risk.
Megadoses of vitamin C have not been shown in clinical trials to reduce viral illnesses such as colds. Large doses of vitamin C, ie, more than 1 g/d, may increase the risk of certain illnesses such as kidney stones, particularly oxalate stones.

ur doc probabaly assumed youd be getting ur dose from capsules. 3000mg seem to be alot.. maybe even too much 500mg is enough to give (some people) constipation

yes for Q1. for Q2 you need approximately 2 kilos of oranges to consume to attain your required 3grams of Vit C

I know high doses of vitamin C can help blood clot. Are you bleeding some where?

the normal person needs about 1000 mg\day , chk at capsules of vitamin c available at market , also there are other sources for vitamin c like tomato , guava , lemon , vegetables , unless u have deficiency of vitamin c and according to ur doctor instruction , u can see another doctor to be sure.

since your doctor has told you this i guess you should follow his advice.
