Is Zoloft better than prozac? What has been your experience for depression/anxie!

Question:

Answers:
I take lithium, effexor, and xanax for depression and bi-polar(I like the cold weather sometimes). If you can get away with no medication, that is your best bet. Every couple of months my meds need "tweaked" and the side effects are not worth it. I don't feel as sharp as I use to be. My wife says this is the only way she can tolerate me. If I try to go cold turkey, I get really out of whack and miss like a whole week of work. It is not worth it. If you are dead set on getting on medication, find a doctor you trust and take what he tells you to take.

BTW, I can't believe you got this many responses so quickly!

i like xanax personally.

I didn't like either one. Wellbutrin worked ok for me.

But I went cold turkey and live a much better life.

Lexapro and Xanax worked for me. I have really, really bad anxiety.

it depends on your body chemistery and what your doctors gives you!but i like lithum

I've been on Paxil and am unable to get off now because my body has become so used to it. I've heard from many users of SSRI's (Paxil, Zoloft, etc) that they have these same problems getting off and wish they had never started. It's my advice to you to try some other type of remedy before you get stuck on a medication that you might possibly end up having to take for the rest of your life. My doctor recommends exercise above everything else. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Zoloft was garbage for me. The only medication that was worse was Wellbutrin. That doesn't mean they would be wrong for you. Sometimes you have to try and see what works best for you. Do it. Your life is waiting.

I'm one of those who is hard to medicate. After several others, including Prozac, Zoloft seems to be helping me at present.

Trying Prozac, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta (?), Lexapro, Paxil, and others I don't even remember over the past several years.

I DON'T HAVE THE SIDE EFFECTS WITH PROZAC. ZOLOFT MADE MY STOMACH UPSET ALL THE TIME. DON'T GIVE UP. ONE OF THEM WILL HELP.

I have never taken Prozac but I like Zoloft. I take it for symptoms of menopause, ie. hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia. The only problem is that it made me gain weight. I was thin my whole life until I started taking it at 50.

I've been suffering from depression all my life. I've been on paxil for a few years now and it has helped more than prozac and zoloft did. Paxil helps with social settings, too, and panic attacks are now gone for me. Hope this helps, and take care!

Never took either b-cuz I heard a lot of horror stories about them, like being in a zombie like state. Paxil seemed to numb me of all emotion. Zyprexa made me worse, even suicidal. Wellbutrin XL worked best. I was happy for the first time in 8 yrs., even lost weight on it! It seemed to FIX the imbalance and after a year of taking it I was able to stop taking it and finally feel normal after 10 years of different medications. Good luck on finding the right one for you!

The effectiveness of Prozac leveled off for me, with Zoloft I stopped taking it suddenly and had ill effects from that, I'm taking Lexapro now and having good success with it.

They work for some people but they really make some people put on weight which can be depressing.

BE CAREFUL!
these kinds of drugs NEVER completely get out of your body - as much as you detoxify it will not get out EVER!
the toxins in the drugs collect in your muscles and tissues causing lactic acid buildup which in turn will cause things like arthritis and poor circulation (hence a heart attack).
also, you cannot go off of them all at once (only a handful of people will survive it) . quitting cold turkey is NOT a good idea. you could end up going super crazy and try to commit suicide with no red flags first.
please try something else first. and try it whole heartedly - not just something to do for a while. PLEASE.

my best friend is dead and i will never see her in this life again. i miss her.

my nephew is a musician and cannot play nearly as well with meds.
his dad is an artist and cannot paint as well with meds.
my ex's daughter is on meds and i WILL NOT deal with her unless she is on her meds. although they do nothing at all for her sister.
it can make your hair go grey, cause worse depression (especially if you stop), and can be highly addictive.
my sister's girlfriend committed suicide after stopping cold turkey. there were no warning signs. she woke up to find her girlfriend in the kitchen with a knife in her neck. do you want that for a loved one? be careful.
