why are children being misdiagnosed when it comes to mental health issues?!

Question:
why do you think children are being misdiagnosed when it comes to mental health issues, but are still being placed on medications when the doctors aren't sure what the problem is yet and these children end up committing suicide?
Answers:
Doctors make money off it.

Parents are too busy to spend enough time with them to understand their individual personalities and deal with them accordingly.

In general, society doesn't care enough about children. Look at education. The US is ranked in the mid-teens.

its easier to medicate, than deal, LONG TERM, with the problems.

because we live in a society where nobody is ever at fault for anything. parents can't just be bad parents, their kids must have some mental problems! so the medical establishment gives useless pills for "ADD" (which is a made-up condition by pharmaceutical executives to better make their lexus payments). parents spend less time with their kids, and when they do it's usually in front of the TV, and then they wonder why their kids are dumb and screwed up. well I say get real people! take ownership of your kids' lives and put forth the effort it takes to make them grow up normally, instead of relying on quack psychologists to bail you out with more pills to pop.

Its easier kid dont know how to explain what they are feeling and other person assume they found the problem..People absolutly need to feel needed and right ..and parents need reasurance..so when the doctor who wants to be right say its a attention problem the parent feels realeave then medicate the kid..

I will never give medicament for mental illness like hyperactivity to my kids..

I agree with all of the above - nobody wants responsibility, nobody wants to parent anymore. The whole "childrens should be seen and not heard" crap.
People want their children to be quiet, so when they do kids stuff like run around and get into things, the easiest way is to dope them, so they are docile and easy to control.
It makes me sick just thinking about it.
How about getting involved in your child's life? Getting them to do some extra activities, get them to participate in something to channel their energy?
We are such an overmedicated society as a whole.
PLus the doctors get money for prescribing certain medictions, so there you go.
Drug companies are the one pushing the drugs and the doctors just don't want to heal people, just process them.

I find that that "misdiagnosis" is usually a result of several possible factors. First, the parent is looking for a quick fix for the "problems" the kid is having and will accept any medication as a possible way of having a "normal" kid. Second, the doctor is not qualified to diagnos the conditons and does not refer the family to qualified professionals to test and observe the child for a proper diagnosis. Third, like my own child, the child's Mental health issues display a cross between many diagnoses but none of which is a complete fit, not to mention the closest fit being a diagnosis that is only diagnosable after the age 18..this according to the DMV IV. Fourth, its not always a "misdiagnois" that is the problem, it is sometimes finding the medication that treats the problem for the individual. Finally, I think any parent that is seeking help for a troubled child should do some research before taking the MD's word.especially on anti-deps.yes, they can cause an increased risk of depression and suicide in teens..if the parents and family are NOT willing to continue to monitor a child on this type of drug.the drug should NOT be used. But it is not just a bad drug to prescribe to any child. Mental health and kids is a complete family, doctor, school, and community relationship need.

I am a second grade teacher and I have seen many children who have been diagnosed as ADHD. I have also seen many children who have not and should be. From my experience working with these children on a day to day basis, I know that the medication works. All medication doesn't work on all kids. Doctors have to try a variety of meds on kids to see what works best for that child. I am not an advocate of drugging children so that can be "seen and not heard". I have some very hyperactive children in my class right now that are NOT ADHD. They do not have a learning disability. ADHD is a learning disability and unless it interferes with his/her learning, they shouldn't be medicated. There are also medications that are stimulant free for children who are not hyperactive. They only make the child's brain less "fuzzy". I have seen them work.
