does anyone have panic atacks/anxiety attacks?!

Question:
my dr said it is very common and i want to see how common they are. its the worse feeling in the world for any one who may have them. does any one have any advice?
Answers:
Yes, I have them and they are scary. I've had them a long time but now they are pretty much under control since I take a ridiculous amount of Xanex every day. Meditation for 30 minutes a day with relaxing music also helps me keep my thoughts in order. When you feel one coming on.think of something that makes you really happy and take long deep slow breaths.

Hope this helps! :)

Other Answers:
yes and they become horrible, had to go get meds from my doctor to help the situation.

I have had them before, yes. I always get them in my sleep, which is scary because it takes me even longer to become lucid after waking up.

Try taking lorazepam.

OMG! I am having right now!

I've had two in the past 5 years. It's a terrible feeling but try not to stress out and u should be ok

Go to the Midwest Center for Anxiety website. It is a GOD-send! It will get better. I promise! No matter what EMERGENCY you think is happening and despite your symptoms.JUST KEEP TELLING YOURSELF it is JUST MY ANXIETY. Go to the website.help yourself!!

My girlfriend gets them, she was told to inhale steam from hot water.

No. I just have dumb attacks.

yep, quite frequently, it ain't fun :(

Yes. They used to be very often and you are right. It is the WORST feeling in the world.

I have anxiety attacks, and they are awful. With medication, you can get them under control. I have learned that they get worse when I am very tired, around the time of my period, and when I am stressed about work or something. SO try to get enough sleep at night, that's a biggie. Try keeping a diary of when you have attacks, and what triggered them. That will help you get yourself under control.

going through the attack & understading that it des not do any harm is best option of treatment

I always get them before my exams.

Well, i hv them most of the time. I hv one recently, during the practical test in lab. Sometimes, during exams too. It happens when u get stressed out. Juz try to relax, calm your nerves, and work things out calmly. Always keep your cool.

Yes, im having a lot of exams and coursework dead lines at the mo so i keep having them. My parents just think im faking it though :(

Yeah mostly in public places like shopping centres but when i started getting them at home i went on medication which helped a lot

Yes,& they can be scary. My dr ended up putting me on prozac to "calm" me down.It has helped a little, but I don't like to have to rely on taking a pill for this.Try to not let everything upset you.Easy to say but I have learned to try to not get myself upset so much, and try to find time for yourself to relax-warm bath, reading.Hope that you can find time for yourself.Panic attacks aren't a good feeling.

My wife suffers from anxiety attacks. She is under a doctor's care with meds, which help a lot. The attacks are no fun for her, or the people close to her. Get medical help, work on your faith, eat a balanced diet, exercise, don't smoke & drink, sleep 8 hours a day, and enjoy nature.

never heard of having them in your sleep. i have had many. so bad that if i was in a store to buy something i would wait in line and start to freak out simply by waiting in a long line. i would have to put my basket down and walk out. i have have them while driving and i find myself in the completely opposite direction in which i intended to go. alot of times they are brought on by stress. yes you probably need to see a doctor at which time they may run tests and put you on an anti-depressant. be careful though because anti-depressants have been known to make your sex drive go down hill. wellbutrin xl is the only one that i know of (per experience) that doesn't chase your sex drive away. anti-depressants such as paxil, zoloft and many others are not a pill that you can just stop taking all together if and when you feel that you don't need them anymore. they have serious side effects that can make you very ill if you decide to wein yourself off.

good luck!

My partner suffers panic or anxiety attacks and is currently on medication for them as well as learn to cope by exposure and understanding. my sister has also sought help for same so you are not alone it is common.relaxation breathing techniques and tai chi, yoga type exercises can be helpful as well as controlled exposure to situations that bring them on (eg:crowded places)best of luck.

yup, they are definitely horrible.this is what worked for me: I asked my doctor about medication, and tried a benzodiazipine..(like Xanax or Ativan)..I only took this when I was going into a situation where I knew I would be anxious.like a concert, or something..crowds were what made me panic..after a few times, I was able to go to these types of places because I had not had a panic attack the last time.and I wasn't nearly as anxious. I also used books that helped with relaxtion techniques such as how to talk yourself out of a panic attack, and how to breathe properly..remember that noone has ever died from a panic attack, and that you can regain control.talking to a psychologist will help you find the source of your anxiety..Good luck! You can do it.

I do. I used to have really severe panic attacks, for example I would go out to eat and for no reason at all, would suddenly feel like everybody was staring at me and the walls were closing in. It got so bad, my throat would begin closing up and I would almost choke on food. I went to a psychiatrist, got some medication and although I still have slight panic attakcs (nothing like they used to be), I feel much better. It is a really common problem. Get some meds from your doctor!! Also, working out helps me because it lets me release a lot of tension that gets built up. Don't feel like you're the only one - you're not!! Good luck! :-)
