How can I teach my 3 year old daughter to stop peeing in the bed?!

Question:
single father (first time father)
Answers:
Well, first of all, her bladder most likely is not fully developed and so it's not her fault. So, please don't traumatize your child by yelling at her about it. Just comfort her and deal with the issue. Here are a few things that can help your child, but will not make her bladder develop any faster:
1. get a plasic mattress cover on the bed. This makes it very uncomfortable when she pees it and thus she'll really try hard to get up when she's gotta go.
2. Don't load her down with drinks before for bedtime. Give her at least one to one and a half hours before bed in which she isn't drinking. Also, make sure she goes before going to bed.
3. When all else fails, get some Pullups for the girl so you don't have such a mess. She should only wear them to bed though.

Hope this helps.

Other Answers:
make her sleep in it, she will feel yucky, and irritated, and she will stop. For you, dont give her fluids before bedtime or reward her for not doing it stickers work good

sells alarms and other things that well help her to realize when it is happening.

I don't have any kids, but from those who do have kids I've heard that the bed wetting alarm helps a lot.

edit: curious's advice can't be good.imagine the psychological distress it would cause. Sometimes the child's bladder just doesn't grow quickly enough to keep up with their size.

Alot of times with small children like that it's not that they "don't know better", it's that they're brain isn't waking them up from their deep sleep to go to the bathroom.

Try putting the slip up diapers on her , and putting a vinyl mattress on the bed. She's not "doing it on purpose" most likely. She just can't help it.

If she keeps having problems as she gets older, then she might have an indeveloped bladder, and you'll need to talk to the doctor so he can make sure everything's okay with her growth hormones.

Not only should you not give her something to drink before bed time, make sure that her "deserts" are infrequent, or at least before 5. Give her water to drink in the afternoon.

With my 4 kids i took them to pee before putting them to bed. Then i took them to pee when i went to bed and did the same thing first thing in the morning.I also stopped them having a drink after 6.00 at night. And it worked within a week .Great no more wet beds.Good luck.

No, don't make her sleep in it.that's inhumane. A 3 year old is still very young to not pee in her bed. Put a diaper on her before bedtime. You have to gradually potty train. She will have accidents. My stepson has accidents now and then and he's 11..be patient and do not discipline her about it..she's too little to know why she's "bad" and she will grow out of it.

A 3 year still is developing neural pathways, meaning: she may not have the full wiring yet to control bladder function. It's normal for a 3 year old to wet the bed. Put her in diapers for sleeping until she remains dry, indicating that she has function and can control her bladder. That's all, she's developing normally for a 3 year old, so don't worry.
