Do you mean why is it still a threat to mankind? There's no cure, that's why.

do you mean threatening the existence of mankind?
if so then i say that it is not. It is causing pain for large areas of africa and other LEDCs (less economically developed countries) in asia, but not threatening the whole world.
All the vaccinations and precautions we can take are out there and in MEDCS (more economically developed countries) the AIDS rate has decreased dramatically, and anyone who is HIV positive now stands a good chance of living a full life if they contract aids, with the use of drugs to treat the symptoms of the disease.

HIV, or aids is still a "Threat" to the existence of mankind for a couple of reasons. 1st: the AIDS virus mutates and because of this, no one treatment works. The most success has been with the use of several in a combined treatment. As yet, this also means there is no vaccine.
2nd: the treatments are still very expensive so many cannot obtain them. This is especially bad for 3rd world countries like Africa, where governments may actually forbid the treatment. In many of these cases, folk remedies take the place of medical treatment. One that was prevalent was that sex with a virgin would cure it. The result was an upsurge in rape and the spread of aids in young girls!

There are several reasons, but probably, the most important is STILL the least popular-PREVENTION. Safety measures, like instructions on not sharing needles, how to properly clean needles, or using condoms and how important it is in NOT spreading HIV or Aids, which are, one in the same, but HIV comes first, and if not treated it progresses into Aids, which, if not treated, you can die from. I'd say the worst problem we have now is that younger people, who weren't around to see the original outbreak, just don't want to use condoms because it "doesn't feel as good", when in reality, if you have sex with someone who has HIV or Aids (2ND stage) you can get it too. This is one of the main ways it is passed on. It goes on and on and on, due to the fact that alot of people STILL don't realize that even a microscopic "cut" in ones skin, is an "open door" to get HIV/Aids, and if you're not aware "they" had it, you too are going to pass it on to someone else. It's VERY contagious in this form, so get checked (if you feel you need to), and pick up some pamphlets on safety precautions on HIV/Aids which you can get at most health clinics..

Education. Take a class, like I did.

I think you mean "threatening" vs. "treating".

Threatening because the US and other developed countries lacked the courage to define this problem for what was when discovered and to have taken appropriate action to stop it.

1983 was the signal moment when AIDS was discovered. There were under 100 known cases in the US. The president suggested a quarantine of these patients and the ACLU and the Gay Lobby went ballistic.

They claimed that doing so was a violation of their human rights, notwithstanding the fact that under their logic the rights of 100 people were more essential than those of the other 250 million in the US.

Congress choked, the President would not stand up to the Liberal establishment and now we have a full-blown incurable epidemic.

These 100 case should have been confined from the population until death. Their bodies burned and its remains hermetically sealed in underground vaults.

Another reason is that you can contract different strains of HIV. The more strains you have aquire the more difficult to treat.

There are very potent natural anti-virals that will kill the virus but since they are a natural substance they cant be patented and hence are ignored by the big drug companies and the info on these is suppressed by the FDA who are in cahoots with them.Go to herbalhealer.com and research olive leaf extract, colloidal silver, grapefruit seed extract and oregano oil you will be surprised by what you find.
