My big toenail has turned green and now it has come off. It actually accidential!

Question:
cause this to happen? What bit of nail I have left is still green. I am keeping it as clean as possilble and using a triple antibotic and covering it with guaze. I try to let it air as much as possible too. Is there any more I can do for it. At one point it was yellowish then turned black and tarry looking then it turned green.===== I am asking this for my daughter because her dad dropped med insurance on her now that he has her(not custody just lies told to take her from me.) I am not allowed to know where she is at so I couldn't help since he cut med insurance off to us both as a punishment. I can't help financially either because he made sure I couldn't work.

I am answering this with the understanding that your nail was torn off and then the remaining part changed in color till it fell off.
The nail itself is dead tissue, but it is nourished by the living tissue underneath the cuticle. if there is trauma to that part which affects that living tissue, it will cause the nail to look blue-gray or green or black and eventually fall off. Don't worry, a new nail will begin to grow there, of course it will take some time and won't happen overnight.
Just be careful that it doesn't get infected. No nail means that the cuticle is unprotected so try not to keep your foot immersed in water too long or get it dirty and use something to disinfect it everyday. If you have mild itching or sensitivity in the toe, use a bit of soothing substance like aloe. if you have a lot of pain or it seems like there's an infection there, see a doctor.

If you toenail was already green before it got torn off, the reasons could be different. In that case you should see a doctor. I realize you have issues with insurance but personal wellbeing wins over money anytime. Go to a hospital, most will give you a payment plan if you cannot pay them all at once.

It has happened to my mother twice in the past. the nail grew back each time.

it is either a fungus, an infection, or you crushed your toe.
