2444 calories how do I know when I've reached the limit?!

Question:
I'm not a calorie counter, as in adding them all up and was wondering what the daily required calorie intake is? According to the weight loss websites free calculators, my daily calories to maintain current weight is 2444. Is this a lot of food? I know I don't burn 3500 calories a day. I burn about 2000 or less and thats estimate according to the weight burning calculators at ivillage.com I 've read about not eating, so not to put on weight but have read the body stores fat and it doesn't work going without eating. At the rate I'am going I'm not losing weight very fast but losing inches each week.

i just went to mypyramid.com and you can input what you've eaten the whole day, and what exactly you've done actively, they get really specific, like how much you've walked that day wether it be just to work or from class to class, you should give it a try, i think 2,444 doesn't sound so bad, but i know i'm not eating what is recommended, frankly the big number scares me a bit, but yeah, in this website they analyze how you're doing and tell you if you should improve of if you're doing fine the way you are. sounds kinda hard to burn 2,000 calories a day, but hey if you are burning alot that means you are excercising and that's REALLY important for you to lose weight/inches at all. don't stop eating period, stop eating bad things; too many fats/oils, soda, things with too many calories, you can eat a lot of calories basically but just distribute them throughout your day, so you burn alot off as you go. good luck with this.

Women should eat 2000 and men should eat 2500 clalories a day. Yeah its enough food as long as u eat sensible, i.e. watch ur intake of fast food and junk!

I recommend buying a small calorie reference book and counting your calories for two weeks. Within a week you'll become a very good estimator of calorie intake without having to use the reference guide. You'll look at a piece of pizza and automatically think, "150 calories". "Oh, it's loaded with pepperoni and sausage? Make that 220-250 calories."

The point is that you don't have to know your intake to the nearest calorie, but if you get it to within 10% or so, you'll be good enough. Those calorie burning and intake calculators are nothing more than estimates anyway. Because of the nature of the calculation (e.g. 2,444) it gives a sense of accuracy that just doesn't exist.

Good luck.
