How do I lighten my hair?!

Question:
My hair is brunette(brown) and my mom told me if you spray this stuff on your hair in the summer, it makes it get lighter faster. Doe anyone have other ways to lighten hair without bleaching it?
Answers:
the spray your mum is talking about is something you need to be very careful about as what it does is encourage the sun to bleach your hair, this can be risky as results could be uneven even resulting in copper colours! as a hairdresser i would recommend you go to your local salon for some subtle highlights, using a hi-lifting tint rather than bleach, that should lighten your hair without the damage of bleach.
BE WARNED the sprays available are nearly as damaging as bleach and willleave hair dry and brittle- believe me i have seen the results!

Other Answers:
bleach.

Dye it a lighter color

I used to use Sun In. The problem is, is that when you quit using it, you have roots until you either dye your hair darker again, or grow it all the way out.

peroxide is what bleaches hair, but it's pretty brutal. chamomile works more slowly, and doesn't damage hair

Try lemon juice. I know it lightens blonde hair, should still work for a brunette.

you can go to the beauty salon and they will highlight or you can buy the kit at the store. don't do the sun in cuz that damages your hair a lot and makes it very brittle. it is expesove to have the pros do it but at least it is done right.

sun in is what your talking about and it works for the most part over a period of time. try dying it a lighter color like a blonde then keep dying it lighter when it begins to grow out.

First thing that comes to mind that you spray on is "Sun In". They have similar products like that out there. Either the sun, or a blow dryer can produce a lightening effect after spraying the product on your hair.

A salon can probably do this for you better than you can at home, because when you have brown hair, often these products will make it look orange.

I have heard that if you put Apple Cider vineger on your hair before going outside that it will help the sun to lighten it..that stuff your mom told you about is called "Sun In". It's in a spray bottle at drug stores
