Frist you can`t make him stop smoking,He have to want to stop, and then you can help him stop.When he is ready to stop you can help him when it start to get hard on him by not telling him that he said that he would quit, but by saying I know that it is hard ,But why don`t you just take a puff or two and not smoke a whole one,or say please don`t smoke right now wait a litte longer.

Perhaps you can start taking pictures of him, and when he asks why.you can simply say, "I'd like to have something to remember you by." .Simply put.you can't make someone quit.and it's devastating to see someone smoke themselves to death.
