How dangerous is drinking after liver problems?!

Question:
This fall, my neighbor had some serious health issues and almost died to an internal infection (including strep). His kidney and liver were 'compromised' and his liver didn't bounce back as quickly as the doctor's had hoped but eventually did bounce back. He is much better now and has returned to his drinking ways. I can't imagine this to be good. I'm having a hard time being around him thinking about this. As a side note, I thought he had a drinking problem before this happened. Thanks so much.
Answers:
I'd say that your friend has a death whish. It is not a wise idea to be drinking after being sick with the liver problems. The liver is the blood stream's filter. If he does continue to drink, a weak liver is more likely to develope cirroses (sp?) Alcohol is a poison, and the liver works hard to get it out of the bloodstream.

Drinking after liver problems is a no, no. Your friend is crazy. Does he/she want to die. My father in law died of scerrosis of the liver. Let me tell you it's not a pretty sight this man was a thin man who swelled up to the size of Marlon Brando. He had blood coming out of all his pores. He was in agony. Nothing helped to ease his pain. Tell your friend to stop and begin to take care of himself/herself.

yep, happens all the time. these people get better and start their habits right back up. nothing you can do, but it is very dangerous and eventually he will be in the same condition as before over and over till it is too late. Happens all the time
