What does a self-destructive personality indicate?!

Question:
As in, setting the standards for you higher than the standards you believe everyone else should have, thereby causing yourself to fall short and fail, what does that indicate?
Answers:
I always had been my own harshest critic. I thought that by excelling I could be accepted because I saw myself as being unacceptable. But by choosing unattainable goals, I kept proving to myself that I wasn't good enough because once again, I failed. Allow yourself to make mistakes, you may have had a childhood as I did in which no one told me it was okay to not be the best.that I was good enough the way I am. You are equal. When You allow yourself to be equal as a human being, your true potential has an opportunity to express itself because you are no longer in competition with others or yourself, it is no longer neccessary to prove to others that you are better or to prove to yourself that you are a failure. Be kind to yourself.

look at the long-term of your goals, maybe you're in the wrong crowd, get people with same high goals-then you are an equal. what u do now affects what you will be 4-ever.

You are comparing yourself to others to much, this could cause you to become seriously depressed and become harmful to yourself. You really shouldn't go and compare yourself to others, Just be yourself and don't worry if your better than others, or just as good. You can relax and be lazy it doesn't matter.

Sheesh, I wish I could hold others to the standard I hold for myself!
I know what I'm capable of and strive to do what I can with what I have. There is no way I would expect anyone else to meet that goal. Not even my son - I expect a lot from him because he is also capable of so much, but he's not my age (therefore his experience is different) and he's on his own path.
Is striving for lofty personal goals self-destructive in and of itself?
