what kind of illnesses can cause sore throat, vomiting and fever or 104 in child!

Question:
my children are both sick and the doctors here are just plain silly. one says common cold, another pneumonia, and another rotavirus. I am worried that there might be a water problem in our home and will test on monday when the health department opens.
symptoms in three year old
sore throat w/ puss pockets
vomiting
fever 104 for 6 days (continuous)

NO
diarrhea
running nose
coughing

symptoms in 19 month old
vomiting
sore throat with puss pockets

nothing else

had a rotavirus test in 3 year old --negative.

I have been three times b/c of worsing of symptoms in three year old. the last one was a follow up for the phnemonia, he says I should stop giving the antibotics. this seems wierd since rota virus doesn't really seem to fit since there is no diarrhea. how long does the longest virus last? so i know when to take them back to the doctor?
Answers:
The doctors aren't silly. They are incompetant. Find a better doctor. Also, try the message boards on www.webmd.com. Doctors answer your questions there, but I would seek quicker advice than that.

Flu.

be away form Doctors

If your child had pneumonia they should definitly be on antibiotics, sore throat with puss pockets, fever and diahrrea could indicate strep throat. Is the breath really bad? If so this could be an indicator, but only a true quick strep test can determine infection. You need to take them back to the doctor with that high of a temperature. If your child had kneumonia you should complete full course of antibiotics

I think I would take them to the ER and tell them that you are not going anywhere until they figure out what is wrong with your children. 104 temp is to high.

it sounds like your kids have the flu with tonsillitis(that's why they have the pus in the back of the throat)I've had that it sucks i would take them to the er i can't believe that Dr didn't give them a iv to prevent dehydration and it also dangerous for a child to have a fever that high for that long.take them to the er.in medical book i have here with me it says if sore throat accompanies a fever higher than 101 ,tender tonsils that could be a sign of bacterial tonsillitis go to the er now!
i would call that Dr Monday and give him a piece of your mind and don't go back there again!

It looks like adenovirus vs Epstein barr

The diarrhea could be from the antibiotics. I would probably change doctors. Have they had a strep test? My little boy had rotavirus and he had fever, diarrhea, and vomiting for over a week. He did not have a sore throat. I don't think it would be the flu because it has lasted too long. This brings me back to strep which can be very serious if untreated. I would ask for a strep test.

wont give any medical advice because children are involved and with a fever of 104 you should be at the nearest hospital not a doctor's office. Fever of 106 can cause brain damage, hemorraging, coma, etc. Not something you want to mess around with. would recommend you go to a children's hospital. If you have already been to one try another and tell them you arent leaving until they find out whats wrong with your children.

good luck!

something bacterial infections could be found in the home or school
