How long does it take an average person to run one mile?!

Question:

Answers:
That really depends on the person's gender, age (sometimes weight) and geographic location, since these are always considered as variables when measuring average 1 mile run times. Since you haven't specified these variables, you may receive a large number of varied responses from this question. It depends on which study is being interpreted, so there is no real right or wrong answer (within reason) based on the parameters of your question. There have been a large number of studies completed on the American population for 1.5 mile runs to measure VO2 Max.

The following calculator will allow to input some of those variables to get a better idea of population averages for 1.5 mile run times and VO2 max. You may then be able to roughly estimate what the 1 mile averages are based on the results.

10 to 12 mins

Someone who is not overweight but may not be aerobically fit and under 40 should be able to run a mile in 9 minutes to 10 minutes. If that same person runs as part of their regular exercise routine they could run anywhere from 5:00 to 9:00 pace depending on their age and weekly mileage. Anything below 5:00 minute pace is getting into world class territory with the best male runners in the world running sub 3:50 for a mile.
