I am 37 now and just now found out I am allergic to kittens. How can that be?!

Question:
I have always been around cats all my life because my family raised them. I just want to know how after 37 years of not being allergic to them, I am now.
Answers:
Oh dear. It can happen - allergies out of nowhere. I understand you can get allergy shots for cats now - check that out.

maybe ur now developing a allergic reaction to them

The older we get, the more our immune systems get run down & we become more allergic to things we used to be okay with.

new allergies occur often. I have became badly allergic to cigarette smoke in the last 3-4 years. Thank God I don't smoke!

you might of been allergic all your life , your body will build up its own defenses after awhile but if it gets to bad take allergy meds , if it doesn't drive you crazy then i would have to say don't take the drugs and give yourself a week or two to see if your body will correct itself

Aleergies are an interesting area of science they can develop spontaneously and dissapear just like that lasting only a few days or a few months at a time then just going and never coming back. Doctors are fascinated by them.

Your immune system changes over the years. For example, as a child I was never allergic to cats, I had my first allergic reaction to them when I was 19.

Yes, people do develop allergies later in life. At the age of 30, I became allergic to chicken and turkey. They do give allergy shots for cat allergies. Unfortunately, they may take two years or more to start working.

You could have been allergic to them but never noticed the symptoms before. I just found out after ten years that im allergic to pork, beef, milk, dogs, cats, horse and cows. Now try that on for size it sucks.
