I have a lump on my gums, near a tooth that has been broken. What is it?!

Question:
I injured one of my teeth a couple of years ago, and every once in awhile a bit more of it falls out. Lately I noticed a little white lump under the spot where that tooth is missing, and I have no idea what it is, as I cannot afford to visit a dentist.

You need to find a dentist and soon. That sounds like an infection and you could end up losing several teeth and be in serious pain if you let it go untreated. Check with any local dental school, some of them have clinics where the students (supervised) work on you for a very low price. Charity hospitals also do some dental work.

It's an abscess. You need an antibiotic. I would check and see if there are any organizations in your area to help pay for a visit, or any free clinics. If you don't get it taken care of, it can spread, into your sinuses, blood, even into your brain.
