Is quitting smoking so "hard" because we've been told that it's hard s!

I smoked for almost 10 years. One day i got bored with it. I stopped. I didnt buy any gum, or patches or anything of the sort because i don't believe in needing them. It has been proven that the physical addiction to nicotine (and to heroin for that matter) lasts around 3 days. The hard part is the mental addiction, but is it possible that we are so weak-willed that we buy into how "hard" it is, and spend our cash on aids we don't really need? I stopped and have been fine since. My grandpa smoked for 25 years and one day also just stopped. Aren't we just so spoiled these days that we think we need help with absolutely everything?

Some people have the will to "cold turkey", but decide to use the patches anyway, just because when you cold turkey, you notice that you become very irritated because you are depriving your body of that thing that you needed for so long. As far as being told that you are too weak, I think it is give and take. They might be saying that you are too weak, but on the other hand, they are saying that if you buy this, you will quit, and we have had _______ amount of successful quitters. So think about that. You can have 1 life, where there is just cold turkey if you want to quit (hard or not). Orr, we have the other life, where there is cold turkey, and a alternative that is saying that if you buy this, you will stop. Now, not even factoring in what the medicine does to you, if you believe something, you will go for it. If you believe that so and so informercial is so great and you want it, even if it doesn't work half of you wants to believe it is true. So when you get those patches, you took the step to buy the patches, you know your that committed, that will push you further to using them. I know this is very confusing, let me sum it up. Think of if your trying to lose weight. If you go out and buy a 2 year gym subscription in advance (non-returnable by the way), what is that telling yourself? That your commited, and because you payed for 2 years, there is no way that I'm going to let my money go to waste, and I will not fail.
