medicare pays for home health care. I think you would have to go to his doctor and get him to perscribe home health. Then contact your specific medicare provider. I don't think that they would compensate you for your assistance because you don't have a governing body over you to make sure that you stay within federal regulations (like an agency). If he needs round the clock attention he should have a nurse that comes in and checks on his equipment every once in a while, this same nurse should be able to help you with your problem. If you don't have a nurse that comes out to your house, call your specific medicare provider (don't ask them the question you just posted here!) and tell them that he needs home health care. That if you could have someone come out and help you guys, then, pose the question about you taking care of him and getting compensated. Though, I think that it is highly unlikely. You would probably do better applying for government assistance if you really want to stay at home.I'm pretty sure the government has a socialsecurity type program for people that have sick family members that need so much attention that they can no longer work. The better thing to do would be to let the home health agency come to your house and help out, and you continue to work (or go back to work). This would probably put both of you in a better financial situation.

I apologize for the insensitive guy that answered before me.

Good luck.

Talk to a lawyer that you trust that usually handles retirement cases. I know it sounds weird, but you might have to transfer assests to only in your name and wait six months and apply for medicaid or medicare to cover him..Otherwise the state can or could take your assests and even your home before he would be covered. Talk to a lawyer and protect your home and yourself as well. God bless.
