Causes
There are many factors that contribute to causing child and adolescent obesity - some are modifiable and others are not.
Modifiable causes include:

Physical Activity - Lack of regular exercise.
Sedentary behavior - High frequency of television viewing, computer usage, and similar behavior that takes up time that can be used for physical activity.
Socioeconomic Status - Low family incomes and non-working parents.
Eating Habits - Over-consumption of high-calorie foods. Some eating patterns that have been associated with this behavior are eating when not hungry, eating while watching TV or doing homework.
Environment - Some factors are over-exposure to advertising of foods that promote high-calorie foods and lack of recreational facilities.
Non-changeable causes include:
Genetics - Greater risk of obesity has been found in children of obese and overweight parents.

Germans tend to be plump, while vikings tend to be leaner. I think it has something to do with wether their specific territory supported their food, and that determines when your body stores fat. I think that's right.

i think its ridiculous.parents should be ashamed of the way they shovbe food down their childrens throat cause they cant say NO

Well i saw it in maury once, about obese children and their parents. As an example you can use, this one mother was like, yeah i feed my baby boy breakfast at about 9 in the morning, then a morning snack at around 10:30. then i give him lunch at 11:15, and give him lots of choices for snacks till 5:45 when he eats his dinner which is usually like two steaks or something, and then give him a midnight snack at around 10 pm when he goes to bed. And the mom was like "I feed my baby when he`s hungry, i`m not letting him starve!!" pssh, yeah right, shes practiacly feeding him every freaking hour!!

lol so yeah i hope that helped. hey i`m in 7th grade too!

i,m the only one of my family that is obesity .Idon,t believe it is possible to blame our adults for this . but it is from sitting to much and not eating right.Kids now a daysdon,t run and play like they use to . I was skinny until i turned 13 and ive had a problem since . but with eating right and getting more exersise i,m slowly loseing it .

You could point out parents not encouraging kids to exercise and that they train children to be couch potatoes by using TV as a babysitter. Out of shape, junk food gobbling parents have out of shape, junk food gobbling kids. Diseases usually associated with older adults like type2 diabetes and high cholesterol are showing up in kids today.

Parents come in to play because parents, afterall, are the role models for their kids. If parents are not setting great examples, then kids don't have a fighting chance because at this age, they are already very heavily influenced by their friends.-So, parents have to be "great" role models. American Indians, Hispanics and African Americans have a higher rate of diabetes. Diabetes often goes hand-in-hand with obesity--cultural traditions that influence obesity are often passed down from generation to generation. Parents also come in to play because they encourage sedentary (couch potato) behavior by buying games (x-boxes, ipods, video games, computers) that encourage kids to stay inside, as opposed to going outside and playing. Also, more households have families where both parents work, therefore no one is there to monitor children and encourage increased activity/decreased use of handheld games, or to monitor what the kids are eating.--It might also help to do some research in textbooks, newspapers, healthcare jounals. Good luck!
