Most drs recommend clear liquids the day before the procedure and to take the bowel prep the night before. They also usually say no food or water after midnight for morning procedures and after 0800 for afternoon procedures. Beware the bowel prep stuff is awefull. I have done it 2x now. If they order fleet phosphosoda put it in lemon aid. It is much better than water or green kool aid. also no red liquids, jello, popcicle or gator aid. they stain the intestines and look like your bleeding. Check your sheet from the dr for sureHealth Question & Answer

I have had it done twice the meds have changed from the first time around but the NPO is the same. I got to eat the night before in other words my last meal was at supper. Then I took the meds and let me tell you stay close to the bath room because you will GOOO! After about four hours you are pretty much cleaned out but one can never tell by thinking he is going only pass gas. By morning I was pretty hungry adn could only take my normal meds, so they told me but I was a good little boy(old man)and did not take them just went in for the colonscopy. It was set to be done at 8 in the morning to which they was on time. I don't remeber much after that because they gave me some good stuff and the last i seen was going into the room and then coming out of it all. I did get a good meal after that. Now was it that good or was I just very hungry, I think it was pretty good as a matter of fact. Then I have ate some pretty bad stuff in the past.Health Question & Answer
