'Popped a blister' .. but it has been bleeding for 20 minutes; just had surgery: was that related?!

Question: 'Popped a blister' .. but it has been bleeding for 20 minutes; just had surgery: was that related.?
My husband had back surgery in the middle of June. He was cut on the left side of his stomach (they went in through the stomach and put an artificial disk in his back) .. and tonight he noticed [what he thought was a] 'blood blister' and he popped it. This 'blood blister' is about 2 inches over from where his surgery scar stops. After he popped it, it started bleeding. It has been 20 minutes and he's still bleeding. He's applied pressure and it's not helping. He's still bleeding a lot.

Is it possible that this 'blood blister' was somehow related to the surgery.? He said (before he popped it) it was 'hard.' ..

... it has been over 20 minutes and it's still bleeding quite heavy (for a 'blood blister.') .. is this possibly related to the surgery.?.?.?.? Possibly where the needle was inserted.?Health Question & Answer

On a serious note, my SO had surgery on a pilonidal cyst last winter, and was taking medications. I read some of the pamphlets, and one of them said they could cause his blood to thin. Just food for thought; is your husband taking anything that could cause this side effect.?

Well, I do hope everything is okay and this is nothing serious. Wishing him a speedy recovery, for his sake, and for yours. I know how whiny these men can be.

Did he have a drain in his back at first.? My daughter had spinal surgery in Aug for scoliosis (Spinal fusion) and had a small hole like that a couple of inches from her incision, where a drain was for the first 24 hours.
I'd get it checked..just in case. I hope the bleeding stops soon.Health Question & Answer

Whilst I do normally hate the "u shood ask ur doc" answers. I think in this situation, it applies. With my insurance, theres a 24/7 number you can call to speak to a nurse practitioner. Why not give that a go.? In the very least it can offer some peace of mind.Health Question & Answer

It could be very well related to the surgery. If it keeps bleeding after you have applied pressure to it for about five minutes, I would go into emergency !Health Question & Answer
