Only a couple of answerer's got it right.

The sweat glands secrete the sweat - and bacteria under the arm eat the sweat. The byproduct of the bacteria eating the sweat is the odor that is given off.

So shaving the hair doesn't really fix the root cause. It only makes it more bearable since there is no hair to help trap more bacteria - therefore more foul smelling pits.

Something I do to help curb underarm odor is every morning after I shower I swab my pits with an alcohol pad. The alcohol pad kills many (not all) of the bacteria found on/in/around the armpit area. Follow this with a good deodorant/antiperspirant and I'm good to go. No BO for me!

Take care.Health Question & Answer

No, it is stale sweat that causes you to get sweaty. A daily shower using the magic ingredient, soap, is highly recommended. Wash with soap all over.

There is no such thing as a deodorant that works. It only gives you another smell which, combined with what you already have, is still an unpleasant smell. It doesn't replace, it doesn't wash, it cannot even hide but is nice and fresh after your shower when a deodorant, as such, is not needed, anyway.Health Question & Answer

Sweat glands cause the odor (bacteria) but the bacteria can hang out in the hair and make things worse. Yeah, I shave the top and bottom areas of the armpit hair area, then trim back the rest so that I still look a little normal as a guy.

You should use antiperspirant , not deodorant, deodorant masks the smell, doesn't block the smell like an antiperspirant does.

That should really help!

Your armpit hair isn't why you have the odor, you have sweat glands there, which produce the odor. The hair just holds on to that odor, making it linger and extremely strong. If you're a guy, I don't suggest shaving, I suggest you buy an inexpensive deodorant or body spray. Axe works wonders ;]Health Question & Answer
