Answers:
I'm usually only at the doc's for annual physicals. A few years back I asked her if it was ok for me to be nude and stop using that stupid gown. I explained that it made me feel dirty when she had to open it to check one thing, lift it to check another. She said the gown was only for the patient's comfort and if I wanted to forgo it, that was quite alright with her. In fact, it made her job easier.Health Question & Answer

I was taught as a medical student to expose the patient in stages depending on what "system" I was examining. A doctor needs your shirt off at some stage so he can observe your chest action as you breathe and also to listen to breath sounds and heart sounds. If he does this through your clothing he is being slipshod because the clothing material interferes with the sounds. With your abdomen, he needs your trousers off and your underwear can stay on. He needs to be able to see and feel what it in your belly. Likewise with your nervous system. He needs to get at your feet, so shoes and socks need to come off.
The genital exam is usually left until the last when you are more comfortable with the personality of the doctor. He needs to make sure you have no hernias, no tight foreskin or signs of sexually transmitted infection. He needs to look at your skin. He may elect to check your prostate through your ano-rectal opening depending on you age or complaints. If your doctor seems rude and embarrasses you as he undresses you, you should find a new doctor.Health Question & Answer

It depends, if you are worried about a "mens problem" then don't. Trust me they have seen it all before. Usually if its to do with your chest/ lungs , heart etc they will ask ou to either remove or pull up your top. If its to do with lower down maybe remove your trousers or pants. Some doctors do things in different ways though. Remeber they have seen it all before!Health Question & Answer

Any doctor that I've ever had has you strip -- which seems perfectly logical to me -- I want any doctor whose examination may save my life to have none of the incredibly self destructive Victorian hang ups that many of my fellow Americans have.

Kind thoughts,
