Why aren't there birth control pills for men?!

Question: Why aren't there birth control pills for men.?
Why haven't they invent a pill that would remove the energy in a sperm that is required to reach to the egg.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Unlike women, sperm production goes on all the time, and testosterone does more for you than just make your sperm. In women, suppressing ovulation requires meddling with the balance of only one hormone, which isn't necessary for anything but ovulation. That's made developing a birth control pill for men a challenge because if you mess with testosterone you mess with a lot more than just sperm. However, there actually is one currently in trials and they expect to have it ready for release in about 5 years or so. Before you go cheering though- it works by blocking the release of sperm during sex. You have to take it and wait several hours before you can have sex, and the effect wears off after about 24 hours. There's also a male version of the Depo shots in the works, using a combo of progestines and androgens- 2 shotsevery three months, a steroid combo that seems to work fairly well and so far fertility has returned within a few months of not taking it. There's also an implant version in the works, which lasts up to a year. What remains to be seen is whether men would actually take pills or shots, and if the women in their lives would trust them to. Health Question & Answer

There are actually a few compound that have been tried and tested. It is a tough situation as you're trying to reversibly supress sperm production, which are millions and millions a day, vs stopping ovulation of one egg in a female. The problems with some of the tested drugs were in reversibility, or dangerous side effects.

There is a shot that there may be a treatment in the future, but there's still a ways to go.Health Question & Answer
