As you have noticed, in most men the foreskin retracts of its own accord during an erection so as to expose most, if not all, of the glans. If you have a particularly long foreskin or a tight one then it may not be able to fully retract and indeed may remain covering all, or the majority of, your glans.

From about the age of 8 it should be possible for a boy to fully, freely and painlessly retract his foreskin to expose the whole glans and the coronal sulcus (groove) behind it so that he can wash himself properly. Parents should teach their sons to do this at least daily and, preferably, to also retract when urinating so as not to trap stale urine.

If you cannot fully, freely and painlessly retract your foreskin right back both when flacid and erect you are suffering from phimosis which needs to be treated by a doctor so as not to result in paraphimosis during sex. Some doctors will suggest steroid creams and stretching exercises but these only work if the phimosis is very slight. Stretching the foreskin beyond where it naturally wants to go can cause tiny tears in the tight tip which heal with scar tissue. The scar tissue is even less elastic than the surrounding skin and thus prevents expansion and the phimosis actually gets worse rather than better. The only sure and permanent cure for phimosis is circumcision.Health Question & Answer

Yes, frequently very gentle, gradual stretching of the foreskin opening will facilitate full mobility and retraction of the foreskin.

This is done over a period of months, and can't be rushed.

Should this not work, you can type in phimosis on your browser and get more information, particularly from a site called CIRP which gives treatments for this condition that don't involve the drastic mutilation of circumcision with it's damaging effects.

Doctors seldom offer alternative treatments, as they make money from circumcision and are frequently members of the religions that try to impose this on other males--they're usually highly biased. That's one of the reasons that it became so widespread in the first place, but thankfully is declining.

There is finally a cut, a small incision in the foreskin opening called a preputioplasty which allows retraction, and is less drastic than circumcision with less healing time and complications, also.

Your glans is hypersensitive from not being exposed, and this will diminish once you can retract for short periods of time. The glans will acclimatize and sensitivity will become normal.

You're lucky to have a foreskin. I was mutilated at birth and am restoring mine.

The best of luck to you.Health Question & Answer

Sit in warm water and try to retract your foreskin till it hurts a bit:keep that position for about 5 minutes.Dry of and drop one drop of baby oil on the glans:rub it in:makes the skin softer.
Repeat this daily. And you will see you can in time retract further:do not forget the oil.Keeps it slippery too.
After a few months you will be able to retract fully.
And keep the oil on:it helps to minimize the sensitivity too.

Health Question & Answer

Your foreskin is probably just a little bit tight which is common in teenagers. If you gently try and stretch it back when you're erect, daily in the shower, then it'll probably get looser in time. Masturbation helps too.
