It's ok Patrick, this is a common question and many folks don't really know the answer to it. One of my little hobbies has been buying and trying these pheromone colognes out, I started in December '07 and have tested a bunch of them up to October '08.
To make a long story short, yes, some of these pheromone colognes do work, and many many more do squat! I'm embarrassed to admit how much money I had to spend to order certain pheromone colognes that smelled like cheap cologne and did absolutely nada! It was about 70% if I remember correctly, that 70% that will do little to nothing for you, at least that's what I observed while testing them in real life.
As for the much smaller number, say 30% of quality pheromone colognes out there, yes, they do in fact work in varying degrees. It's not exactly like what you may see on some websites flashy sales page, women will not be instantly drooling all over you or anything like that, but they will give you a very real and substantial boost!
The best way to put it is like this, if you consider yourself to be a 5 physically on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the most handsome physically), well, with certain good pheromone colognes some women will tend to perceive you more like a 7 or even a 7.5 instead of a 5.
The effects of pheromone colognes are subtle, but very real. I personally thought these colognes were all hype until I tried a bunch, the ones that work, work pretty well, unfortunately there's a heck of a lot more out there that don't work, and I think I own them all!
also, keep in mind there is no one pheromone cologne that does everything, different human pheromones tend to induce different behaviors in the opposite sex, there is no one cologne fits all currently available.
There are pheromone colognes designed with make you seem more manly, and gain more respect from men. Others that are solely good for inducing sexual tension in the opposite sex, and yet others that have the effect of making others chatty, friendly and relaxed, it all depends upon what cologne you are interested in and what type of reaction your looking to help bring about.?
Typically the best two pheromone colognes for a newbie to try out would be the Scent of Eros, and in your case Alpha 7 Scented.
The Scent of Eros is an oldie, one of the first in the industry that proved to actually work! It makes people (male and female), happy, friendly, very talkative towards you and relaxed, and smells great to boot!
Alpha 7 Scented, which is usually worn at the same time as the Scent of Eros, but only if you are looking to induce pure sexual attraction and sexual tension from the opposite sex. Alpha 7 is the big time sexual attraction pheromone cologne - probably the best on the market, even out doing another oldie known as Primal Instinct big time! The effect of wearing both these would tend to induce females to be happy, friendly, chatty, relaxed and talkative towards you, while also feeling that you are more manly then you may actually be.? As well as feeling enhanced amounts of sexual tension and attraction towards you.
The primary components that cause these affects are specifically Androstenol and Androstenone...But I won't bore you with the specifics.
All this being said, these colognes will give you an edge, and advantage if you will, but what you do with that edge is totally on you!
Some folks think they can bathe in this stuff and then just walk by a girl while looking at the ground and trembling at the thought of speaking to her, and they'll be ok...Doesn't work that way my friend.
You will have an edge, but if you don't proceed with an appropriate attitude and action, then these colognes will not help you much in most cases, but there are exceptions, as some women react very strongly to these pheromones while others do less so, no one knows why yet, but rest assured the women who react extremely aggressively are in the minority, so you will have to use your personality to best exploit the edge these colognes give you.

They only attract your dollars when you buy them. What David M is telling you is true. Have a shower earlier in the evening like after work.
Put on a subtle under arm deodorant on like axe and go commando in some thin material pants that air can kind of move through.
Your own pheromones will come from your clean skin and your clean groin area. Scent from that part of the body when fresh is pheromone, while stale that bacteria gets to becomes odor. That's why you want to start out fresh and clean.
Mingle with and get near the Ladies, and those who are perceptive to pheromones should respond as in being attracted.
Too much cologne can cover natural pheromones so just do a nice subtle deodorant and let your own fresh good smells work for you Dude.
