I'm 19 and my hair is falling out!?!

Question: I'm 19 and my hair is falling out!.?
Over the past week I have noticed a lot of my hair is falling out. I first noticed when I was styling my hair with a new gel/wax and there were strands of hair in my hand.

Today I was shaking my hands through my hair over the sink and there were a lot of hairs that fell out. Not in clumps and from the root so it's not breakage.

I recently put thick blonde splices through my hair (which is naturally dark), and it seemed fine. But I started to notice this once I dyed it back to dark brown. Do you think it could have something to do with the colour.?

You can't really notice atm, but I'm concerned. My dad is nearly 50 and he has a full head of hair, wheras my grandfather on my mother side is bald.

I heard a lot of people lose a lot of hair this time of year because the hair is at the end of it's growth cycle.

Help! And if you're a professional, please say so.

Thanks.Health Question & Answer

I am in your boat. My hair is thinning and I am 16. It is sad and causes alot of paranoia. You are not going bald. Just ease up on product and dyes as they strip natural moisture and products prevent hair ventilation. Hair needs air and exposure to remain healthy. Refrain from using product for a few weeks and only use it when you are going out. I recommend buying fortifying shampoo and conditioner - even the ones from local supermarket will be fine - don't let a hairdresser who thinks shes all that talk you into buying some 200 dollar bottle of useless crap. Just wash your hair every second night and condition it well. Dye especially blonde is harsh on the hair but not dangerous. sure it will take its toll but if you want dye you have to make up for it buy keeping your hair healthy with shampoos and plenty of tlc. Im no professional but im passing on the advice from my stylist. Go to a hair salon and ask someone to have a look at it and they will let you know. Worst case scenario is premature baldness which IS NOT THE CASE but if so there are advanced technologies which come cheap these days for the restoration of hair. also eliminate stress as it causes your hair to thin and it can't be heredatory as your father still has hair at 50. Good luck man.Health Question & Answer

I recommend talking to your doctor to see if there is a medical problem like poor diet or stress. It could also be all the things you are doing to your hair- dyes, excessive product, etc. But it could also be normal hair loss. I know several guys that had lost a lot of hair by their early 20s.

Id guess if you are stressed. You will lose your hair or it may turn grey, either or works with stress.Health Question & Answer

I actually searched this question because my hair keeps falling out. And i'm a girl, and i'm only 15. Today, when I washed it, the bath tub like clogged up because of my hair. No joke, that's how bad it is. I brushed it, and my hairbrush had so much hair in it. Plus, I tried to smooth out my hair, and all I found in my hands was hair. My hair is falling out at a scary rate, and I haven't even dyed it before. Well, I would suggest not brushing your hair when it's wet. That's when it's the worst. Trust me, you're not alone, and I hope I can fix this problem.Health Question & Answer
