The latest research has shown that a full body workout is more effective so excersises that use more of your balance and core strength. also if you have any extra fat the ab muscles will be hidden so it takes quite a lot of effort and a high protein diet cutting out saturated fats to get them.Health Question & Answer

"six pacs are made in the kitchen." this means that to have any VISIBLE abs you really need to bust a gut (so to speak!) to lose a lot of bodyfat. However if you are patient enough, it might be a good idea to build some extra muscle first, and this can only really be achieved by eating more (balanced) calories coupled with good weightlifting exercises. Once this is achieved you will look loads better once that fat is taken out of the equation. To get 'toned' you need to lift heavy. The number of personal trainers who bang on about needing to perform 10-15 reps with dumbbells which are as heavy as bananas is insane! Really push yourself in the gym. You will only get injured if you don't warm up properly, have bad form ((don't do the exercise safely such as swing weights instead of lifting) or try to force your muscles past their physical capability. Anyway, you should try not to just work on abs, you SHOULD work entire body (a good way is Olympic lifts ; deadlifts etc) as this will get all muscles incl. Abs working) if you don't do this at least work oposite muscle groups, in this case lower back because you won't look good painfully hunched over through muscular imbalance. Good exercises for both back and abs at once can be planks and flags (that's why I call them) please feel free to email me (atfc08@hotmail.co.uk) for any more exercises or programmes. Don't worry it's free I'm just a bit frustrated with typing this on my iPod touch! Haha anybody else can ask me something too ,general or fitness relatedHealth Question & Answer
