You may have a sleeping disorder but who doesn't. Usualy when you dont get enough REM into your sleep cycle, you tend to get tired and sleepy during the day and early morning. That's when you wake up heavy and groggy. It also depends from person to person. Sleep apnea is not the only disorder around. There are MANY sleeping disorders. Look for them at the bottom of the page marked 'sleep disorders'. I know wiki isn't the best place for resurch but eh.

For ex) I was sleeping purfectly last week. Feel asleep at 11.30pm (totaly early 4 me, I usualy sleep @ 2-3 am) and would wake up before 10am. Last night I went to sleep @ 12am woke up 5am. Ill go back to sleep later @ 8am. That's b/c lately I've been having emotional problems. So my sleeping soundly went down the drain. But I found my cause for my crappy sleep, so that's always good. I also stopped using alcohol or anything as a sleep aid.

The cause seriously can be MANY factors you just have to find which one it is. For me is stress and my brain never shuts up. Its mostly trial and error finding out what's wrong. Health Question & Answer
