Nerve test for cervical herniated discs...?!

Question: Nerve test for cervical herniated discs....?
So my MRI report cam back a few weeks ago. I have 2 cervical herniated discs, bone spurs, and degeneration in my discs. In addition to...strained neck, rhomboid (shoulder blade area) and lumbar muscles (lower back).

I have been going to physical therapy and I was told yesterday that if I am not feeling better by January, he wants to do a Electromyography . He mentioned needles being put along my arm and this just freaks me out! Has anybody had this done.? What was it like.?.?

Next step after that would be a cortisone shot in my spine (not sure about this, since it doesn't fix the problem, it only numbs the pain temporarily), followed by surgery.Health Question & Answer

It's generally not a comfortable test...but generally not excruciating either.

I wouldn't necessarily write off the cortisone injections as a temporary fix...sometimes the injections combined with the physical therapy allows one to complete the corrective exercises that are sometimes not possible with PT alone. I've had many patients fail to respond to PT, but responded much better after the injections.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer
