I am thinking about becoming a dental hygienist and i hear that they are in really high demand, but if they are in such high demand why is it so hard to get into a dental hygiene program in college.?.?.?Health Question & Answer

Because dental hygienists are in high demand there are many applicants for a limited number of spots in the program. When there are more applicants than spots the school will choose the highest ranking candidates. This makes a dental hygiene program more rigorous to gain admission to.Health Question & Answer
I recently read that, although nurses are also in high demand, it's hard to get into a nursing program because the same shortage also affects nursing FACULTY. The same may very well be true of the dental hygiene field--not enough instructors to turn out all the hygienists we need.
So if you do get into a program, you'll know that you were one of the top applicants, and when you graduate, you should have your pick of jobs!
