they need nerves to supply them with nutrition, without the they would be really brittle, fall apart, break off, sometimes by the beneath the gumline and than the tooth needs to be extracted, thats why you need a crown after you have a root-canal. also when you have a cavity you dont get your nerve removed unless big enough to get into the nerve, than you need a root-canal, hope this helped...Health Question & Answer
