Today i went to a new dentist for the first time since i've moved. They are telling me i need a deep..........?!

Question: Today i went to a new dentist for the first time since i've moved. They are telling me i need a deep...........?
..........cleaning due to having "deep periodontal pockets". They are telling me it will cost $950.00 for all four quadrants to be deep cleaned, and that is before any medecine for the supposed bacteria in the pockets. Does the $950.00 sound expensive for a full deep cleaning.? Should i look around at other dentists that could be less expensive.?Health Question & Answer

Hi. I'm glad i seen your question because i just had to have this done. Mine cost $800.00 for my whole mouth, but beware, the medicine they are talking about is another $50.00 a pocket, so that was another $600.00. If you have dental insurance, it should cover most of the cleaning ( mine paid for $600.00 of the cleaning ), so that ended up only costing me $200.00, but they do not cover the antibiotics that they have to put in the pockets in your gums. Mine was done in 2 visits ( they do one whole side, then the other ). I would skip the novacaine, i don't think you'll need it. It didn't hurt getting it done. It was just a little sore after wards, didn't even need to take anything for pain cause there was none. It wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. My teeth feel much better now too. If you have insurance, call them first to see what they will cover, and you could try calling a few places to see if you can get a better price. I know it's still expensive, but it's worth it to save your teeth ( the alternative is dentures, yuk ). Good luck :-)Health Question & Answer

$950 is rediculous. Deep cleaning is just like extra time of a regular cleaning. You aren't having gum surgery - that might cost that much. Where they lower your gum to the bone around your teeth because of advanced gum desease. I'd go to another dentist or call around and ask what they charge for DEEP CLEANING.Health Question & Answer

price shop. A full mouth deep cleaning in our office would cost around 500.00 and that would include the medicine they put around the teeth. Who knows, you may not even require the treatment they want to do to you. Get a second openion without mentioning it to that dentist what was said at the first office. It may be worth the extra 100 or so dollarsHealth Question & Answer

well it depends r u seeing the doctor or the hygienist.?.?.?
if ur seeing the doctor its an okay price but if the hygienist is doing it then its a bit expensive i work at a dental office... but u should at least have another consultation.. and when u call the other dental office tell them ur getting a second opinion n it shouldnt cost u any thing as long as u have ur xrays n treatment plan with u and the perio charting... hope this helps...Health Question & Answer

Get your old x rays......If you have been going to any dentist for regular cleanings every 6 mos....I DOUBT you need this...
Ask for the probing numbers and for them to SHOW you on films what they are planning to do..... plus $950 is high at a general office....Health Question & Answer
