What are some exercises for an ACL tear?!

Question: What are some exercises for an ACL tear.?
I tore my acl back in the summer...

Doctor said I wouldn't need the surgery to repair my acl because the muscles around my knee (quads.hamstrings) were so strong he said if i could build up those muscles + a brace(don joy) i would be able to get back to the competitive hockey i play.

What are some good strengthening exercises I can do to help me get my muscles strong and back to hockey asap.?

I had a few clients with this injury (often referrals).

You may feel a fool, and it is wise to enlist a trainer. But the first exercise is:

You take a step forward with the good leg then make a small hop and land on the foot of the bad leg.
The idea is to land softly, hold it for around three seconds, and have a mid way squat (i.e. you don't land stood upright but in a slight crouch)

It is a very good exercise that helps the joint re learn how to stabilise itself. You then progress to doing them sideways and ones where you turn and land facing the other way. Every time going for a hold of 3 seconds.

Then you can progress onto using a resistance band (a big rubber band they have in gyms). Strap it to a piece of equipment, pull it taut and do the same hopping exercise above. This time you will have the added impetus of the band pulling you and the exercise is more difficult and allows progression.

Hope it works out for you.Health Question & Answer
