I just cut the bottom of my foot open with a piece of glass?!

Question: I just cut the bottom of my foot open with a piece of glass.?
few days ago glass fell and broke and i thought i picked all the pieces. just a min ago i sliced my foot open with a piece of glass lodged in the carpet. Do you think it could be infected since the glass has been there for a while.? Anything i should do besides covering it up.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Never use alcohol or peroxide on an open wound. The peroxide will kill healthy tissue, and the dead tissue it causes encourages infection. Soak your foot in warm sater and baking soda, put triple antibiotic on it and a bandaid. If the glass is still in it, make a paste of baking soda and water and put that on it, with a bandaid. Soak it agin and again until the glass surfaces and comes out.Health Question & Answer

Wash the wound with lots of soap and water. Rinse well, then cover with a dressing. If it's red and painful in the next few days, see a doctor.

Check your shot record. It's recommended you get a tetanus booster if more than five years have elapsed. (In such a case it is sometimes wiser to get a Td - adult tetanus diphtheria booster. Check with your doctor for his/her advice before going to an ER.)Health Question & Answer
