Can someone please give me advice to my lower back pain?!

Question: Can someone please give me advice to my lower back pain.?
well once i hit the age 13 is when my menstrual cycle started and ever since then i have always had sever lower back pain. also another thing is i have a slight case of scoliosis which is a curvature of the spine and ive had pain all the time so i started popping a couple of midols because they totally relax my muscles but they make me sick because they are to strong but anyway i had recently got into a car accident and i went to go see a chiropractor and i had told her about my lower back pain and she said its probably from my scoliosis or if i have bad posture. Now i am 21 and i work at a grocery store as a cashier and i stand in one spot for about 5-6 hours a day 5 days of the week and sometimes the pain in my lower back is excruciating and i find that if i walk around it feels better but when i stand still it kills now i find that when i sit down it even hurts i have to sit on a pillow i have hard times sleeping also i don't know what to do can anyone give me some advice please!Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I feel your pain (literally). I'm an OR nurse , 8 hours a day on my feet 5 days a week plus call. I'm 37 but I swear my feet and back are twice that.

You need to see a spine specialist, either neurosurgeon or an orthopedic surgeon. I don't trust chiropractors. I had my back manipulated once or twice, it always hurt worse after they were done with it. As a nurse, I've also cared for a few patients who required surgery after seeing a chiropractor because the chiropractor actually caused nerve damage.

When you go see your spine specialist, the doctor will update your history and physical and get X-rays to measure the curve and determine what treatment, if any, is necessary.

Treatment of scoliosis is based on the severity of the curve and the chances of the curve getting worse. Since you are done growing, if the curve is <40 degrees, it is not likely to get worse later in life. However, if the curve is >40 degrees, it is likely to continue to get worse by 1-2 degrees each year. If this is not prevented, you could be at risk for heart or lung problems.

In most cases, scoliosis is not painful. There are other causes of back pain, which your doctor will want to look for as well.

Talk with your spine specialist. He/she can send you for a PT evaluation if indicated. You can be placed on a PT program to strengthen your core muscles. Phase 1: education, posture, and flexibility to decrease pain. Phase 2: strength and fitness activities. They can also check you legs and feet like I Saw You Look Away refers too.

Additionally, massage and exercises, including yoga, can help strengthen core muscles and relieve back pain. You can also talk to your physician about a referral to pain clinic.Health Question & Answer

Get your feet checked out by a specialist. If you dont stand on your feet the correct way then that can put your entire back (especially lower) out a little, and this builds up over time. I went to one because i wanted to find out why i wear one side of my shoes out and not the other and found out i was flat footed. I was given some shoe inserts to arch my feet the way they are meant to, and surpisingly enough - no more back pain!Health Question & Answer

You need to increase the strength of your lower back. Really concentrate on excercising this area. There are specific targeted excercises a Physio should be able to show you. also never just lay down and do nothing when it hurts. This is the wrong thing to do. Take pain killers if you have to then try to carry on as normal. also you should 'pace' activities. It can be hard at work but basically of something hurts after doing it for say 2 hours then only do it for 1 hour and change/move/rest. Over time you can build back up to 2 hours and so on.Health Question & Answer
